Franco Morbidelli
Early Life

Franco Morbidelli was born on December 4, 1994, in Rome to a Brazilian mother, Cristina, and an Italian father, Livio Morbidelli. His father was a former motorcycle racer who had finished runner-up in both the 80cc and 125cc classes of the Italian national championships, establishing an early racing connection that would prove pivotal to Franco's future.
Despite recognizing his son's potential from a young age, Livio did not have the financial resources to support a racing career. Through an old racing companion, Graziano Rossi—father of nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi—Livio learned about the motorcycle training opportunities in Tavullia. In a remarkable show of commitment to their son's dreams, the Morbidelli family sold their home in Rome and relocated to Tavullia to support Franco's racing ambitions.
This move proved transformative, as Franco's training with the Rossi family became the foundation for what would later evolve into the renowned VR46 Academy. Morbidelli would go on to become the first official member of this prestigious training program for motorcycle racers. The family faced tragedy in January 2013 when Livio committed suicide, a devastating loss that occurred as Franco was beginning to make his mark in professional racing.
Racing Career
Morbidelli's professional racing career has been marked by steady progression through motorcycle racing's premier categories. His breakthrough came in 2013 when he captured the European Superstock 600 Championship, establishing himself as a rising talent in the sport.
The pinnacle of his junior career arrived in 2017 when he claimed the Moto2 World Championship, demonstrating his readiness for MotoGP's premier class. This title served as his passport to the sport's highest level, where he would face the world's elite motorcycle racers.
Currently competing in the MotoGP class, Morbidelli rides for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, bringing his career full circle back to the VR46 organization where his journey began as the Academy's first official member.
