Early Life

Born on May 6, 1999, Patricio 'Pato' O'Ward is a Mexican race car driver who entered the world of motorsport at a young age. He began his racing career in karting at the end of 2005, when he was just six years old, and remained in karting competition until 2012, developing his fundamental racing skills over seven formative years.
Junior Career
After his extensive karting background, O'Ward transitioned to open-wheel racing in 2013, competing across multiple series including Latam Fórmula 2000, Formula Renault 1.6 NEC, and Pacific Formula F2000. In 2014, he progressed to the French F4 Championship, continuing his development through the junior formulae ranks.
O'Ward's junior career culminated with his dominant performance in the Indy Lights Championship, where he captured the 2018 title, positioning himself as one of the most promising prospects for IndyCar competition.
Racing Career
O'Ward's breakthrough came with his 2018 Indy Lights Championship victory, which served as his springboard to IndyCar competition. On March 7, 2019, he joined Carlin on a part-time deal for the IndyCar season, marking his debut in America's premier open-wheel racing series.
His 2019 IndyCar program with Carlin included 13 races total - 12 races driving the #23 car shared with Charlie Kimball, plus a special third car entry for the prestigious Indianapolis 500, giving the young Mexican driver valuable experience at the sport's most iconic venue.
