Born on September 2, 1990, Marcus Thorbjörn Ericsson was raised in the Swedish town of Kumla. His journey into motorsport began at the tender age of nine when he started competitive kart racing, displaying early promise that would set the foundation for his professional racing career.

Junior Career

Ericsson's karting years proved highly successful, as he claimed several national titles in Sweden. His transition to car racing in 2007 was remarkable, winning the British Formula BMW championship with Fortec Motorsport in his debut season.

Moving up the racing ladder, Ericsson joined Fortec's British Formula Three Championship program. After an impressive rookie campaign that established him as one of the category's top newcomers, he made a bold move to Japan for the All-Japan Formula Three Championship, where he dominated in his debut year to claim the championship.

In 2010, Ericsson progressed to the GP2 Series with Super Nova Racing, securing one victory during his maiden campaign. He continued in GP2 with iSport between 2011 and 2012, before completing his GP2 career with DAMS in 2013, positioning himself for the step up to Formula One.

Racing Career

Ericsson made his Formula One debut in 2014 with Caterham F1, beginning a five-year stint in the sport's top category that lasted through 2018. His Formula One career provided valuable experience at motorsport's highest level.

Following his Formula One tenure, Ericsson transitioned to American open-wheel racing and the IndyCar Series. The move proved to be career-defining when he achieved his greatest triumph by winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2022 while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. Currently, he competes in the IndyCar Series for Andretti Autosport, continuing his pursuit of success in American motorsport.
