Álex Márquez i Alentà was born on 23 April 1996 in Spain, into a family destined for motorcycle racing greatness. As the younger brother of Marc Márquez, who also competes at Grand Prix level, Álex grew up surrounded by the world of two-wheeled competition that would shape his future career.

Junior Career

Márquez began his competitive racing career in 2010 in the CEV Buckler 125cc championship with the Monlau Competition team, alongside future rivals Álex Rins and Niklas Ajo. His debut was delayed as he wasn't old enough to compete in the opening round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, not turning fourteen until five days after the event. He finished eleventh in his first start at Albacete and ended the season eleventh overall.

The 2011 season saw Márquez emerge as a genuine title contender, battling directly with Rins for the championship. He claimed two race victories at Motorland Aragón and Albacete, ultimately finishing as runner-up, just 12 points behind champion Rins. When the championship transitioned to Moto3 regulations for 2012, Márquez again secured two wins at Albacete and Navarra, clinching the Spanish Moto3 Championship with a fourth-place finish at Albacete.

Racing Career

Márquez made his world championship debut as a wildcard at the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, immediately scoring points with a twelfth-place finish in difficult weather conditions. After additional wildcard appearances at Estoril and Catalunya, he joined the series full-time from the Indianapolis Grand Prix onwards with Ambrogio Racing, finishing his debut season twentieth overall.

The 2013 season with Estrella Galicia 0,0 on KTM machinery marked his breakthrough year. After consistently finishing fourth or fifth in the early races, Márquez achieved his first podium at Indianapolis with second place behind teammate Rins. Three consecutive third-place finishes at Silverstone, Misano and Motorland Aragón built momentum toward his maiden victory at the Japanese Grand Prix, securing fourth in the final championship standings.

2014 proved to be Márquez's championship year. Despite Jack Miller's early dominance with three wins in the opening five races, Márquez fought back with successive victories in Catalunya and the Netherlands, reducing a 44-point deficit to just seven points. A run of five consecutive top-two finishes from the British Grand Prix, including another victory at Motegi, established him as championship leader with a 25-point advantage. In a thrilling finale, despite Miller winning two of the final three races, Márquez's third-place finish at Valencia secured the 2014 Moto3 World Championship by just two points.

The title victory created history, as Álex and brother Marc became the first brothers to win world motorcycle racing titles in the same year. For 2015, Márquez graduated to the Moto2 World Championship with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS team, beginning the next phase of his Grand Prix career.
