Early Life

Anthony Joseph Foyt, Jr. was born on January 16, 1935, in the United States. From an early age, he would develop a passion for motorsports that would eventually lead him to become one of the most versatile and successful racing drivers in American history.
Racing Career
A.J. Foyt built one of the most remarkable and diverse racing careers in motorsports history, competing successfully across multiple disciplines. His open wheel racing career included both United States Automobile Club Champ cars and midget cars, where he established himself as a dominant force.
Foyt's versatility extended beyond open wheel racing, as he also competed in stock cars in both NASCAR and USAC, as well as winning several major sports car racing events. This breadth of competition showcased his exceptional adaptability and skill across different racing formats.
His career achievements include holding the USAC career wins record with 159 victories and the American championship racing career wins record with 67 wins. Foyt made history by becoming the only driver to achieve the unprecedented feat of winning the Indianapolis 500 (four times), the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In NASCAR competition, Foyt captured notable victories including the 1964 Firecracker 400 and the 1972 Daytona 500. He also demonstrated his all-around racing prowess by winning the International Race of Champions all-star racing series in both 1976 and 1977.
Throughout his career, Foyt survived three major crashes that caused serious injuries and narrowly escaped a fourth, testament to both the dangers of the era and his resilience as a competitor.

Following his retirement from active racing, Foyt transitioned into team ownership with A. J. Foyt Enterprises. His organization has successfully fielded competitive teams across multiple racing series, including CART, IRL, and NASCAR, continuing his involvement in the sport at the highest levels.
