As fans gathered to witness the high-speed action, expectations soared for Team Penske's Will Power, who clinched the pole position but soon faced a major challenge.
"I was definitely feeling really good going into the race," said Will Power, reflecting on his qualifying performance. However, shortly after qualifying, Power was diagnosed with a concussion and had to withdraw from the race. Oriol Servià was called up to fill his spot, leaving second-place qualifier Simon Pagenaud to inherit the coveted pole position.
From the start, Pagenaud displayed impressive control, leading the initial 48 laps before Juan Pablo Montoya took over, showcasing his resilience and skill. Montoya guided the field through 44 laps, ultimately securing his second consecutive victory in St. Petersburg.

"It was a learning experience for sure, but I'm proud of how we executed today," Daly shared post-race, reflecting on his debut performance. Alexander Rossi, another rookie, secured the highest finishing place among first-year drivers by coming in 12th.
The race was marked by an unusual statistic as it tied the record for the fewest caution flags in the event’s history, offering fans uninterrupted racing excitement. Only two cautions were called throughout the race: the first on lap 46, when Luca Filippi collided with Marco Andretti in turn one, and the second following a restart when Carlos Muñoz found himself entangled with Graham Rahal, creating a slowdown as the course was blocked.
"It's always disappointing to see incidents like that, but we managed to maintain a pretty good pace overall," said Rahal, commenting on the race dynamics amidst the rare cautions.
Following the race, Power was re-evaluated and found to be experiencing an ear infection rather than the originally diagnosed concussion. This allowed him to confirm his participation in the upcoming race at Phoenix International Raceway. "I’m relieved to know that I’ll be back on track soon; it’s going to be great to hit the ground running again," Power expressed, optimistic about the next challenge.
