"I’m incredibly happy with the team and how we executed today," said O'Ward, driver for Arrow McLaren. "Holding off Álex at the end was challenging, but we managed to stick together and read the race well."
O'Ward's victory was hard-fought, especially as he had to navigate the pressure put on him by polesitter Álex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing. Palou led the race early on but could not sustain his pace in the closing laps.
"We did everything we could to stay in the front, but Pato was just too quick at the end there," Palou said after finishing second. "It was a tough battle, but I’m proud of the team and the effort we put in this weekend."
Scott McLaughlin, representing Team Penske, completed the podium in third place, contributing to an exciting day of racing. “The car felt great all day, and I’m happy to bring home a podium for Team Penske,” said McLaughlin. “We’ll keep building on this for the next races.”
The event saw several practice sessions leading up to the main race, with drivers fine-tuning their vehicles for the 2.258-mile permanent road course. During the first practice, Álex Palou set the bar high with a top lap time of 01:07.0650, showcasing his dominance early on.
As the competitors advanced through qualifying, Palou again proved his mettle, taking the pole position with a time of 01:05.3511.
