Oscar Piastri, the rising Australian star in Formula 1, has solidified his future with McLaren by signing a new multi-year contract extension. While the specific duration of the deal has not been disclosed, McLaren has indicated that Piastri will remain with the team for the long haul, stating, "the Australian driver will continue in papaya for the long term."
The 2024 season saw Piastri demonstrating his talent, achieving victories in Hungary and Azerbaijan, alongside multiple podium finishes in Monaco, Austria, Belgium, Monza, Singapore, and Qatar. His exceptional performance contributed significantly to McLaren's success, helping the team clinch the constructors’ title while he finished fourth in the drivers’ standings. Notably, his teammate, Lando Norris, finished second, just behind Max Verstappen, and both drivers now look ahead to the upcoming Australian Grand Prix to start the 2025 season.
Reflecting on his contract extension, Piastri expressed his gratitude for the support he has received, saying, "There are so many talented and special people working at the MTC who have helped me to become a Formula 1 race winner very early in my career. Therefore, I’m very proud to be continuing to represent this legendary team for many years to come."
