Louis Foster is ready to take on a new challenge in his racing career. Following an impressive season in the Indy NXT Series, it was announced that he will join Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) for the 2025 IndyCar Series, marking the start of a multi-year contract.
Foster, who drove for Andretti Global in the recently finished Indy NXT season, clinched the championship title with eight race victories and 12 podium finishes. His remarkable performance positioned him for a significant step up in his racing journey.
"I think it’s a good combination," said Bobby Rahal, team co-owner of RLL. The addition of Foster comes after Christian Lundgaard’s departure to Arrow McLaren, leaving a gap that Foster is excited to fill. Rahal emphasized the potential he sees in Foster, stating, "I just liked the way Louis carried himself and how he acts, and I think he’s just a class guy. I think for sure that’s why we look at him as a long-term opportunity for us."
Foster's journey from the UK to the United States was driven by his dream of reaching the pinnacle of open-wheel racing. "To be able to kind of realize the effort and the risk that we put into moving my entire life—at the end of the day, you come over to America to race," he expressed. The commitment was significant, as he not only traveled back and forth but fully relocated to the U.S., making a substantial investment in his racing future.
"For it all to pay off, it really does mean the world to me after these last three years of putting everything I have into this," Foster added. With his sights set on a successful IndyCar career, he reiterated his long-term aspirations: "This is where I want to be, and this is where I want to stay, and hopefully we’ll have a long career in IndyCar."
As he prepares for this new chapter, Foster acknowledges the learning curve ahead. "I think as a first year, for me, you’ve got to think the first half of the year is going to be definitely some growing pains, learning about IndyCar racing and really trying to understand it as much as possible and soak it all in," he explained. Despite having experience at most of the IndyCar tracks, he is realistic about the challenges ahead.
Setting expectations for his rookie season, he stated, "At the end of the day, I don’t know exactly what to expect, so it’s hard to give expectations now. But if I can leave the year with a couple podiums, top-five finishes, fast qualifyings, that’s what I’m thinking of and that’s what I really want to work towards."
Foster’s focus remains on building a strong relationship with his new team. "I think the biggest target for me is to get working well with the team and making sure we gel well and perform the best we can every weekend," he concluded.
