Jorge Martin has officially declared his intention to remain with Aprilia for the 2026 MotoGP season, solidifying his commitment to the Italian team amidst swirling speculation over his future.
On the eve of the Czech Grand Prix in Brno, Martin announced, "I am happy to say that I will be continuing with Aprilia for 2026." This revelation comes on the heels of uncertainty surrounding his contract, which had fueled rumors of a possible switch to Honda.
Martin's relationship with Aprilia faced scrutiny following a clause in his contract that hinted at an early exit. In light of his struggles during the past season—marked by numerous injuries—he had expressed doubts about his future with the team.
Reflecting on these challenges, Martin said, "It has been a really difficult few months for me, well, not a few months, more like six or seven months. I have been suffering a lot from injuries." This candid acknowledgment underscores the physical and mental toll that recent events have taken on the rider.
His initial 2025 season with Aprilia was marred by misfortune, as he suffered injuries prior to the competition and faced a significant setback during his first race in Qatar. In that event, a crash not only ended his race prematurely but also saw him narrowly escape serious injury when Fabio Di Giannantonio collided with him.
In a press conference, Martin elaborated on the complexities of his situation, stating, "I want to explain everything that has happened, because it will be easier. I think after my first, second and then third injury, everyone became more serious, and I had a lot of doubts."
His determination to explore all options led him to ponder whether to activate the clause allowing him to depart from Aprilia or continue racing with the team as per his current contract. He noted, "From that point, I had to fight for what I thought was best for me, which was to move on to another project."
Despite the turmoil, Aprilia held firm in their desire for Martin to stay, viewing him as a vital asset in their racing lineup. The team had no plans of letting him go, affirming their confidence in his potential.
The MotoGP landscape has continued to evolve, but with Martin's decision to stay, Aprilia aims to build a competitive future with the talented rider at the helm. Fans can expect to see him back in action at the Czech MotoGP, where he will take to the track after a rocky start to his career with the team.
Looking ahead, this decision not only signifies Martin's dedication to Aprilia but also sets the stage for a potential resurgence in his performance as he battles back from injury. His continued presence in the MotoGP landscape is sure to attract attention as he seeks to reclaim his standing after a challenging period.
