The race began with the 17-lap Moto3 grand prix, where the action unfolded quickly. Daniel Holgado emerged victorious after a thrilling finish, narrowly edging out poleman Deniz Öncü by just 0.051 seconds. "We had to fight hard for this win. It was all about getting into the right position on the final laps," said Holgado, expressing his excitement after crossing the finish line.
The typically aggressive racing of the Moto3 class at Mugello gave way to a fierce five-rider battle for supremacy. Deniz Öncü, who performed a bold maneuver at Turn 9 on the last lap, initially created a gap. "I thought I had it, but Daniel was just too quick," Oncu admitted, showcasing his disappointment after finishing in second.
Completing the podium was Ayumu Sasaki, who crossed the line just 0.005 seconds behind Öncü. "I was pushing hard, and I’m happy with my performance today, but we always want more," said Sasaki. Following him were David Alonso and Jaume Masia, who narrowly missed out on a top-three finish.
Looking ahead, Holgado's current lead in the championship is a solid 35 points as teams prepare for the forthcoming German GP. The performance of the riders places KTM in a strong position as they move into the next round, with Holgado reflecting, "Every point counts at this stage, and we aim to build on this lead further."
In the Moto2 category, Pedro Acosta showcased his dominance over the 19-lap race. Despite an action-packed opening lap, where Alonso Lopez collided with Sam Lowes, the race settled into a rhythm that favored Acosta. "I knew I had the pace to pull away, and once I got the lead, it was about keeping my focus, especially with the penalties in play," Acosta stated, pleased with his ability to maintain control over the race.
After Lopez was penalized for the collision, Acosta found himself with a two-second lead, which he extended to six seconds by the end of the race. With a methodical approach, he left no room for error and cruised to victory, finishing ahead of Marc VDS’s Tony Arbolino. "To finish behind Pedro today is no shame; he was just the fastest out there," said Arbolino, reflecting on his second-place finish.
Jake Dixon, riding for Aspar, clinched the final podium spot, expressing his satisfaction: "We raced well today and secured a strong result for the team. We are learning every race, and I feel we are getting closer."
As the riders move to Germany, Acosta's win further solidifies his status, demonstrating that he is not only a fierce competitor but a potential title contender as well.
