In a significant announcement for motorsport fans, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) confirmed a multi-year extension for veteran driver Graham Rahal. This partnership, which continues a longstanding relationship, positions Rahal to compete further in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
"I’m extremely excited to get a new multi-year agreement in place and hopefully continue to build and improve the team," said Rahal, who has been a staple of the RLL roster since 2013. His enthusiasm reflects a promising vision for the team’s future following a season marked by notable achievements.
Throughout the 2023 racing season, Rahal showcased his talent, securing two poles and achieving a significant second-place finish at the Gallagher Grand Prix in Indianapolis. This tightly contested race illustrated his competitive edge, coming in just 0.4779 seconds behind the winner, Scott Dixon, after leading the most laps with a total of 36.
The driver’s history with the team dates back to his rookie season in 2007, a journey that includes five career victories and three poles while racing for RLL. His competitive spirit has kept him in contention through multiple seasons, notably finishing in a strong position for the championship in 2015.
Bobby Rahal, the team co-owner, expressed his optimism regarding the extended contract. "We are pleased to have been able to come to an agreement with Graham to drive for the team for the coming years," he stated. He acknowledged Graham's ability to deliver impressive results when provided with a capable car, highlighting the importance of the team’s continuous efforts to ensure competitiveness in every race.
Mike Lanigan, fellow co-owner of RLL, also shared his sentiments about the renewal. "Watching him grow and excel not only in racing, but also off the track, has been very impressive," said Lanigan. He noted that Rahal's extensive experience and understanding of the racing landscape would be beneficial for the team as they tackle the challenges of the upcoming seasons.
Fans can look forward to the upcoming 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, which kicks off with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 10. The 17-race schedule promises excitement, featuring a doubleheader at Iowa Speedway planned for July 13 and 14, reiterating the competitive spirit that fuels both the series and the team.
As Rahal steps into this new contract, he remains focused on delivering consistent success. "Obviously, there is a lot of work still to be done to ensure that we continue to grow and get ourselves in a place for continuous success but I’m excited about the signs that I saw," he remarked.
With a robust lineup alongside teammates Christian Lundgaard and Pietro Fittipaldi, RLL aims to capitalize on past experiences and innovations in the sport. The combination of Rahal’s experience and the team's commitment to performance sets a promising tone for both the upcoming season and the future.
Looking ahead, fans and analysts alike will watch closely as Rahal seeks to elevate his game and contribute to RLL's ambition of excelling in the highly competitive NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
