McLaren Racing has recently welcomed three new talents to its Driver Development Programme, prominently featuring the newly crowned Formula 2 Champion, Leonardo Fornaroli. Joining him are fellow F2 competitor Richard Verschoor and the promising 15-year-old karting champion Christian Costoya.
Fornaroli clinched the Formula 2 title in eventful fashion during the Feature Race in Qatar, where he secured a second-place finish. With four victories and five podiums this season, the Italian driver, who is only 20 years old, continues a remarkable trajectory, having previously claimed the FIA Formula 3 championship last year.
“Winning both the FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles has been an important step in my journey, and I’m motivated to take the next step in my development through the programme as I work toward my ultimate goal of racing at the highest level,” said Fornaroli about his transition to McLaren.

As Fornaroli becomes part of the McLaren family, he will engage in test and development duties, aligning his career with the team's commitment to nurturing young talent. Fellow new recruit, Richard Verschoor, is also making headlines as he currently holds third place in the Formula 2 standings ahead of the upcoming season finale in Abu Dhabi. The Dutch driver has also showcased his skills by winning four races during this campaign.
“I’m delighted to be part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme. It’s a special moment, and I’m grateful for McLaren’s support in allowing me to continue my development,” said Verschoor, expressing his enthusiasm for the road ahead.
