Ducati Corse has confirmed that Michele Pirro will remain with the team as a test rider for an additional three years, extending his contract until the end of 2026. This decision stands as a testament to Pirro's essential role in the company's motorcycle development over the past eleven years.
Hailing from San Giovanni Rotondo and a nine-time Italian Champion, Pirro has played a crucial part in refining the Desmosedici GP model. His contributions extend beyond testing; he was instrumental in developing the Ducati MotoE, which made its debut during the recent FIM MotoE World Championship in Le Mans.
In addition to numerous testing sessions with the Ducati Test Team, Pirro has also competed in the Italian Superbike Championship aboard the Panigale V4 R. His experience in MotoGP events adds depth to his role, underscoring his expertise and integral presence within the Ducati team as he prepares to race as a wild card at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix scheduled from June 9 to 11 at Mugello.
Reflecting on his long career with Ducati, Pirro stated, "My sporting career has been marked by Ducati, and I can’t imagine myself in any other color than the red of the Borgo Panigale house. I joined in 2013, during what were possibly the most challenging years for Ducati Corse, but now I am also experiencing some of the best years for the company. I'm very proud of what we have managed to achieve together, and I’m excited to work closely with the new generation of Italian riders: I always learn something new from them. As always, I will put in maximum effort to continue contributing to the development of the Desmosedici GP and the Panigale V4. I thank Claudio, Gigi, Paolo, Davide, and everyone who has faith in me. Forza Ducati always!"
This renewed agreement underscores Ducati's commitment to its testing program and its intent to leverage Pirro's expertise as it continues to innovate and improve its motorcycle offerings. Ducati's history is rich with challenges and successes, and the extension of Pirro’s contract ensures a blend of continuity and growth as they look to strengthen their position in the motorsport world.
As Ducati prepares for the busy racing season ahead, the presence of a veteran like Pirro will undoubtedly be a significant advantage. His intimate knowledge of the bike and the dynamics of the sport will play a crucial role in the development of future models, keeping Ducati competitive on the world stage.
With the Italian Grand Prix approaching, all eyes will be on Pirro and the Ducati team, not only to showcase their latest innovations but also to reaffirm their commitment to excellence in motorcycle racing. As Ducati moves forward, Pirro’s ongoing contribution will undoubtedly remain a key factor in their continued pursuit of success in MotoGP and beyond.
