In a eventful race on the streets of Gold Coast, David Reynolds clinched his first Supercars win in five years, defeating Brodie Kostecki in a nail-biting finish. The event on Sunday showcased intense racing as Reynolds maneuvered his Grove Racing Ford Mustang against Kostecki's Erebus Chevrolet Camaro, ultimately winning by a mere 0.18 seconds.
Reynolds demonstrated strategic depth by initially settling into second place before seizing the lead during Kostecki's longer second fuel stop. However, the lead fluctuated with ten laps remaining when Kostecki briefly retook control. "He definitely was pushing me, I thought I was going to get crashed! It was a really hard-fought race, I loved it,” said Reynolds, reflecting on the fierce competition.
The race's pivotal moment came when a Safety Car was deployed with just seven laps remaining. Fourth-placed James Golding crashed, blocking the track and forcing a tight three-lap sprint to the finish. Despite the pressure of close contact, Reynolds skillfully defended his position and secured his long-awaited victory.
