The 2026 Chili Bowl Nationals unveiled its highly anticipated preliminary night on January 13, showcasing thrilling moments at the Tulsa Expo Raceway. Officially beginning this annual celebration of dirt track racing, the event is powered by NOS Energy Drink and has attracted racers and fans from across the nation.
Defending champion Kyle Larson marked a significant milestone by claiming a dominating victory in the first preliminary feature. "It feels amazing to be back here and to win another preliminary. We have a great team, and it's always an honor to compete at the Chili Bowl," said Larson, highlighting not only his talent but also the efforts of his crew.
Starting from the fourth position, Larson executed a strategic drive, overtaking polesitter Cannon McIntosh on Lap 10. "I knew I had to be aggressive but smart early on. The traffic can be tricky, but we managed to get through it," Larson reflected after the race. Behind him, Briggs Danner mounted an impressive challenge, battling fiercely with McIntosh for the second spot.
Danner's tenacity paid off as he secured his place in Saturday's main event alongside Larson. "I was pushing hard out there. Racing against someone like Cannon is never easy, but we've been racing together for years, and I know how he drives," Danner said, underscoring the camaraderie and competition present among the drivers.
Completing the top five were Shane Golobic and Jerry Coons Jr., both of whom demonstrated their capabilities throughout the night. Golobic commented, "It really shows the depth of talent here; every position counts at the Chili Bowl. I’m looking forward to the next race."
Earlier in the night, the Race of Champions concluded with Christopher Bell taking the top spot. "Winning the Race of Champions is special. It sets a great tone for the rest of the week," Bell remarked, emphasizing the prestige that accompanies a win at this legendary event.
The 40th annual Chili Bowl Nationals continues its prestigious tradition with another night of preliminary action scheduled for January 14. Fans can watch every lap of this thrilling event live on FloRacing, keeping the excitement alive for both competitors and enthusiasts alike.
As racers advance through the week, the anticipation builds for Saturday’s main event, where only the best will compete for the coveted title. With strong performances showcased on the first night, the stage is set for an electrifying series of races as the Chili Bowl Nationals unfolds further.
